A Day in Weston

After our quick stop at Weston Bend a couple weekends ago, we drove into the town. It seems like there are always events happening in Weston--from car shows to Irish festivals and everything in between. While I never snub my nose at a good festival, I really wanted to see what the town was like on a typical weekend (and without the crowds to contend with), and we lucked out.

Downtown Weston is pretty much the quintessential American small town. It feels a little bit like it stepped right out of a book--cute little shops selling local goods, friendly people walking their dogs...there was even a group of Boy Scouts in uniform cleaning up the park!
I just love the sense of community in small towns--the feeling that people genuinely care about where they live and the other people who live there too.  And the shops! It's hard to even pick a favorite. There was a great coffee shop, an Irish store with a whiskey snug in the back (turns out I really like $80 scotch...), a bath supply store that sold a tobacco + amber scent that I'm obsessed with, a Polish pottery store, a vintage camera shop and gallery that had prints from the 1910s-1930s(!), and a candy shop that made old-fashioned sodas (and lavender lemonade).  Not to mention a few home decor stores too.
We were really torn on where to eat lunch, but knowing we'd be back, decided on an Irish lunch at the brewery. Tin Kitchen is definitely on my list, though, so it's a good excuse to go back--not that I really need an excuse.  Weston is such a great little town and a perfect day trip from KC.
