One Year.

Untitled

Wow. How can it be that my little blog is a whole year old today? It's so strange to look back at those first few posts and see how far I've come in just a year. Don't get me wrong, I still have a lot to learn, but there has definitely been a progression, and I'm proud of that growth.

To be honest, I don't even know what I was expecting when I started blogging. I really just needed something to do, honestly. My entire life I had been working toward something and always had things to fill my time. High school, college, grad school....then I started planning our wedding, which consumed about 95% of my free time for months. Then we were married, and I was going crazy with working all day, coming home, and trying to fill my evenings and weekends. I was getting stagnant...and a little depressed, to tell you the truth. Planning our wedding had made me realize that I could be truly creative, but after the wedding, I didn't have an outlet for that anymore. So I found blogging, and in a way, it sort of saved me. It gave me that creative outlet I was craving and a reason to experiment with other mediums. I started exploring my town more. I started looking for inspiration in places I wouldn't normally have looked.

I don't want to get all weirdly emotional about it, but blogging really has given me so much that I never expected. I thought it would be a hobby, but it's been so much more than just "something to do." It's made me more disciplined, given me a sense of progress, and--probably most significant of all--introduced me to and included me in a wonderful little community. Truly one of my favorite things about this whole experience so far has been meeting other bloggers (both online and in person!) and getting to see their ideas, hopes, and experiences. I completely believe that online friends are real friends, and I am so lucky to have made so many new ones over the past year. So if you've been a part of this adventure with me, thank you. Here's to another year.

  3. Happy one year of blogging to you!! I started blogging basically the week I graduated from college--so I can definitely relate to using it as something to fill up whatever formerly used up your capacity for creativity! And I love using it as a creative outlet--it's a good little part of my life!
