House Fever.

I remember a time in my life when I thought I never wanted to own a house. I never wanted to be that tied down to a town, and it seemed like so much responsibility and upkeep. Apartments are easier, I figured. Less to keep clean, some come with most utilities, and I'd only be locked in to a place for a year at a time at most. "Nope, never buying a house," I said.

Well.

Let it just be known that I am not a person afraid to publicly change my mind or admit when I'm wrong.

I have house fever like no other. I don't know when that switch flipped, or what flipped it, (our moderately creepy neighbors with a penchant for Creed might be a bit of a factor) but I'm pining for an honest-to-goodness house. I need a library, people. I need to decorate. There's only so much you can do with an apartment--we would have to repaint any room we painted before we moved out, and the managers tend to frown upon ripping up the carpet to put in hardwood floors.

I recently went on a dream-house pinning binge. The likelihood of us finding anything like these in Springfield is pretty darn low, but I'll keep dreaming anyway. Take a look!

  1. That's why you build a house! Like my old roommate Anna used to say, I have a big dream to build a little house. Ps. Those last two.... SWOON.

    1. The problem is that we *really* want to live in Rountree. I've wanted to since I moved away from there after grad school; Tyler wasn't so into the idea at first, but we've spent a lot of time around there since the leaves started turning, and now he's almost as obsessed with it as I am. I know there are so many problems you run into with older homes, but UGH. I just love that area.

    1. Yeah, they also have a penchant for yelling expletives at each other, which is actually more entertaining....but a little disconcerting, too.

  3. Well, it's not Rountree, but if you want to live in the Mark Twain area (south of Sunshine, between Campbell and Fort) there are always nice houses for rent around here. I see them when I'm out walking my dogs. I can't imagine NOT living in an actual house - it's so nice having the space!

And hey, it could be worse - when I was just out of college, the people next door to one of my friends had a very active sex life. And extremely thin walls. It was a little awkward...

    1. Oh gosh, I've had *those* neighbors, too--below us. We jumped up and down on the floor a few times and they got the hint. They also moved out shortly after. Thank goodness! It really is the most awkward thing ever.

    1. Maybe we just need to find a place we aren't afraid to be tied down TO. I mean, England sounds pretty good to me.....;)

  5. I don't love winter, but that snowy little cabin looks so cozy! Old houses are definitely for me. I need to be surrounded by something with lots of personality! The only thing is that you are definitely staying put until someone decides to buy your house. That's the situation we are in right now and there's nothing we can do but wait. It's a pain!!

    1. Ugh, see that's the thing! I get so commitment-phobic when I think of things like that. I definitely need an old house--I don't even necessarily want a big house, but I do want one with character. Subdivisions where all the houses look the same are sooooooo stressful to me.

  6. Cute!! I have house fever too but mostly just for a bigger space, not for all the work that comes with it. :)

  7. your home pins are fuelling my house fever now! I can't justify buying a house in the city I live in now but I feel a sleepy oceanside town is in my near future!

    1. That sounds dreamy. I could have a little cabin on the Oregon coast and be perfectly happy always.
