Wedding Week(ish): Our Story.

I used to tell my mom I never wanted to get married. She would just smile, nod, and say, "You're not going to fall for just anyone, but when you fall, you're going to fall hard and fast." I thought she was crazy. I had too much I wanted to do with my life. I was too independent, too hard-headed, and too OCD/control-freak-ish with my finances and decisions. No freaking way was I ever going to share a life with someone.

Then I met Tyler. And I fell. Hard. And fast.

Tyler and I went to the same church while I was in graduate school. We had a few of the same friends, but had never actually met.   He noticed me on Twitter, and started following me after one of our mutual friends retweeted something I posted. I followed him back, seeing that he was a fellow North Pointer. Soon after, I got a Facebook request. We talked occasionally, but usually just in 140 characters. Apparently that's enough to develop a tiny little crush, though. In the meantime, I finished grad school and moved back to my hometown (3 hours away) to help care for my grandparents.

Excuse the poor quality, but this is a picture from our first date. :)

Then I ran over my phone.

It doesn't seem like a likely cause for romance, I know, but bear with me. After my iPhone met my Buick, I sent out a request for numbers online. Guess who sent me his? Of course, I texted him so he would have mine too. I mean, it would be rude not to, right? Right. We texted a little back and forth. One weekend, when I was visiting some friends/my brother in Springfield, I headed to North Point. After the service, I saw Tyler walking across the lobby toward me. (Note: I almost panicked.) We talked briefly, and then I totally surprised myself by telling him that I was going to get Mexican with some friends, and asking if he wanted to come along.

Of course, he said no.

That's right. Totally rejected! Apparently my invitation caught him off guard, and HE panicked. (He also got quite a bit of flack for it from a friend that he had told about his crush on me.) Needless to say, I was pretty convinced that he wasn't interested. That is, until he tweeted later, "Is it possible to miss someone you've met ONE TIME? Apparently."

Another one from our "first date weekend."

Pretty soon we were texting constantly throughout the day, and Tyler started sending me packages of books, trinkets, and mix cds in the mail. Some of the songs seemed like they could be hinting at romantic feelings...but others didn't at all. I know this sounds crazy, but he seriously kept me guessing up until he basically told me that he liked me, a couple months after we met. Pretty soon we were having long (um, up to 8 hours) phone conversations, and we sat a day for our first date.
I couldn't eat for a week beforehand. I have never been so nervous for anything my entire life. Tyler picked up from my brother's apartment at 8am (hey, we were excited) and we headed to Gailey's. We spent the entire day together, and then the rest of the weekend, minus the time he was at work.

Let me just say that I never believed in that whole, "when you know, you know" bs. I thought it was 100% hindsight bias, and I was 100% wrong. After our first date, I called my mom and told her that I was going to marry him. He texted his mom and told her to get ready to meet her future daughter-in-law.

I was right. So was he. We were both completely sure. And I couldn't be happier.
